First, for me, glass panels are about the safety and enjoyment of flight. I always know exactly where I am and where I am going. I know the weather ahead and all the information about airports is at my fingertips. Whether daylight or pitch dark, two flight management systems, FMS, are looking out for me with NAV data and synthetic vision as a second and third set of eyes.
Pulse on performance. The Trutrak autopilot, AP, allows me to lighten the workload for long flights. My engine monitoring system keeps close tabs on vital functions like fuel and oil pressure and flags any abnormal indications.
Recordkeeping is a synch. Further, both FMS record all flight data and create an electronic flight logbook. So sweet. This transforms recordkeeping from a burden in my early flying to a breeze today. Anytime, I can see cumulative times on the airframe, engine, and propeller via my smartphone.
Fuel savings are another benefit. Like the Airlines, my FMS-controlled AP flies my Seawind for sale at the shortest possible distance between points at the most fuel-efficient altitudes. I also like to set the throttle to a fuel-efficient cruise. With Foreflight, I find the best fuel prices and refuel with the cheapest Jet A along my route. This saves me up to four figures annually. That buys a hell of a lot of $100 hamburgers.
High and fast. Flying in the high teens I can go from New England to Florida easily in just one day with only one fuel stop. This keeps lodging expenses to a minimum.
Safer flying, less work, lower cost, and shorter trips all sound terrific to me. Lastly, the breathtaking views from high up are cast in my memories. I am on top of the world. It is glass that takes me there. I hope that some lucky pilot who soon sees my Seawind for sale notice discovers the same experience!
